Hi Jin,

Thank you for contacting us. I just made a few tests, and I can write Allien’s Higgs-3 tag reliably from the 105 cm.

I would recommend that you perform an Antenna Tune procedure for the Sampo and also enable Auto-Tune feature. Please note that the tags mounting base may reduce writing and reading distance.

Here are guidances how to update a firmware and tune the antenna:

Firmware upgrade and antenna tuning:

  1. Download and unzip the following firmware file to local computer:
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/108232824/NordicID/Nur/NUR05WL2_FW_55A.zip
  2. Start RFID Configurator. If you don’t have it, you will get it from here:
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/108232824/NordicID/Nur/Softwares/RFIDConfSetup_v167.exe
  3. Establish the connection between RFID reader and RFID Configurator:

  4. Set the corresponding firmware to the Bootloader, Application, and Ethernet (optional)
    Bootloader = NUR-05WL2-loader-v1.5-A.bin, Application = NUR-L2-application-v5.5-A.bin, Ethernet = AR55Img_2038.bin

  1. Go to CONFIGURE DEVICE view and make sure that only the “Flash Bootloader”, “Flash Application” and “Flash EthApp” (optional) is checked. Then click the “Configure Device” button. Note that the Ethernet firmware can be update only via Ethernet cable and the USB cable needs to be disconnected.

Configure the Sampo and Stix:

  1. When the firmware is successfully updated, and the reader has reconnected again, go to “RF LINK & INVENTORY” view, and check the “Configure RF link and inventory setting”. Make sure the settings are appropriate, especially a Region setting. It’s also good to enable Auto Tune -feature. Please note that some features are available only in the NUR05WL2 module.

  2. Configure the antenna settings to match the assembly. Enable also the Tune antennas (applied only to NUR05WL2 modules).

  3. Go to CONFIGURE DEVICE view and check that you have correct tasks selected. Then click the “Configure Device” button. Make sure that there’s no anything extra on top of the reader in case that you have a “Tune Antenna” selected and your reader is installed on the place.

After these steps, the reading distance should be as good as it can.

Here’s also the latest version of the RFID Demo:

Hi Support,

I’ve a request from my customer asking what is the maximum write range for SAMPO S1 reader? Currently they have tested and manage to get around 20cm.

The RFID tag they using was Alien Squiggle. It was tagged on a solar panel module. The SAMPO S1 reader was installed on the production line. It’s was facing downward.
